DURING 27 YEARS OF USING HIS HANDS, EARS, AND BASS AS HIS PRIMARY VEHICLE OF EXPERIENCE AND EXPRESSION DAN IMMEL FINALLY BEGAN TO GIVE FOCUS TO THE VISUAL PRACTICE OF PHOTOGRAPHY THAT WAS ALWAYS THERE ALONG THE WAY BUT ALWAYS IN THE BACK SEAT. PROVIDING FOUNDATION AS A BASS PLAYING MUSICIAN WITH A CAREER CULMINATING IN 7 YEARS OF TOURING WITH CIRQUE DU SOLEIL, HIS TRAVELS WITH THAT TROUPE LED HIM TO OVER 50 COUNTRIES. THIS TIME SWIFTLY EXPANDED HIS PERSPECTIVE OF THE WORLD: IT'S PEOPLE WITH ALL THEY SEW, IT'S LANDS WITH ALL THEY GIVE, AND AT THE LUCKIEST OF MOMENTS, HIS PLACE WITHIN IT ALL.

IN HIS HANDS, WHERE HIS BASS ONCE LIVED 100% OF THE TIME, HIS CAMERA HAS NOW COME TO SHARE THE DRIVERS SEAT OVER THE LAST DECADE.  HE HAS SHOT ON SIX CONTINENTS, PRODUCED AND ASSISTED MANY MAGNUM PHOTOGRAPHERS (David Alan Harvey, Christopher Anderson, Susan Meiselas, Jonas Bendiksen, Alex Majoli, Thomas Dworzak) OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL PROJECTS WITH MAGNUM PHOTOS AND NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC in RIO DE JANEIRO and BRAZIL at large.

FINDING THE HUMOR, DEPTH, AND BEAUTY IN THE POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE OF ANY COUNTRY OR CULTURE, DAN CONTINUES TO SEEK THE ELEMENTS OF HUMANITY THAT DEFINE OUR EXPERIENCE HERE: OUR STORIES, BOTH INTIMATE AND PUBLIC, OUR FOOTSTEPS, OUR ENVIRONMENTS NATURAL AND MANUFACTURED, OUR LABORS AND SUSTENANCE, ALL WITH THEIR PLACE UPON THE PALETTE FROM WHICH HE CONTINUES TO PULL.
